Shirley’s History with clay

Biography
As a passionate sculptor, I have dedicated my life to transforming raw materials into profound expressions of art. My journey began in Houston, where I was first captivated by the tactile nature of clay. Over the years, I have honed my skills across various mediums, including wood, and metal, allowing my creative vision to take shape in diverse forms.
My work is heavily influenced by life, such as nature, human emotions, historical events, etc, which inspires me to explore the depths of the human experience through sculpture. I believe that every piece tells a story, sparking connections between the viewer and the art itself.
Exhibiting my creations in galleries and art shows has been a significant part of my career, where I engage with fellow artists and art enthusiasts, sharing insights and inspirations. I was also a director of a gallery for over 4 years, which gave me much insight into the depths of artistry and beyond. I am constantly striving to push the boundaries of sculpture, experimenting with innovative techniques and materials. I have been given many awards. Some in particular are winning first place for my very first piece of ceramics at the Bosque Gallery inside the Lone Star College system, and years later I received a Congressional letter of recognition for my works of the bust of Sister Helen Gay. I have been on CNN, Inside edition, many newspaper articles, magazines, an Univision to name a few. I will be published in the book titled ” 50 Houston Artists” coming out in August of 2025.
